TUTORING

While I work with students, I teach the basics of phonemic awareness, fluency with high frequency words, and reading entry level books.

I also work with students on reading aloud with great expression in their voice, while comprehending what they read. With early readers, we work on specific reading skills, such as:

  • Letter naming

  • Initial consonant sounds

  • Short and long vowel sounds

  • Phoneme segmentation

  • Comprehension strategies

As an interventionist, I address the specific needs of a particular child and I work with students' parents and teachers to help assess reading strengths and weaknesses and match these skills/needs with appropriate techniques and materials.

E-LEARNING

With the busy schedules of modern families, in addition to the unprecedented times of Covid-19, I am happy to offer remote E-Learning sessions.

With this option, students are able to attend sessions from the comfort and safety of their homes, with the plethora of E-learning resources available to us.

GROUP TUTORING

There are many benefits to individualized tutoring, but there are also benefits to teaching in small groups. In addition to being able to offer reduced rates per student for parents, in the forum of a small group, the students get to practice positive peer interactions in an academic setting with the close support of an educator.

I offer small group tutoring sessions (2-5 students) for students at similar reading levels.

PARENT SUPPORT

I enjoy working with parents to provide helpful techniques and resources to facilitate and empower parents to support their students effectively, at home. Books and activities from our sessions are always sent home so that students and parents may continue practicing activities together throughout the week.

CURRICULUM

I am trained in Orton Gillingham and use many resources from Reading A-Z. Together, with these great resources, I develop an individualized curriculum for each student based on their specific learning needs.

EVALUATION & ASSESSMENTS

The first time that I meet a student, we spend time getting to know each other. I also provide a comprehensive evaluation and assessment so I understand the skills and strategies the students already have in place, as well as areas of growth to focus on. Using the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) for older readers, I am able to understand where their skills lie with reading engagement, oral reading fluency, and reading accuracy and comprehension. With younger students, I am able to use a Letter Naming & Recognition assessment to evaluate which letters and sounds they already know.
